Ege Hi'Jazz Orkestra consists of a clarinet, a violin, a kanun, an oud and a darbouka, a perfect orchestra for a repertiore of Gypsy and Classical Turkish music. The ensemble starts with traditional Istanbul songs and the performance evolves into a Gypsy celebration reaching its peak at the end. The ensemble has brought the sound of the typical entertainment atmosphere of the meyhanes (drinking cafes) of Istanbul to various concert halls in Europe since February 2000, when it was formed under the leadership of Hüsnü Senlendirici, as part of a project entitled “Musics of Turkey” which was organized by Cité de la Music (Paris) and Auditorium de Lyon, in collaboration with Hitit Productions.
